Boating Life
Hi All....I love a mystery and I managed to create one for myself while looking at the Fall 2009 issue of Boating Life.
There's a photo on Page 6 that doesn't compute. I looked at the thing and studied it and I thought.."What the.....??"
I wondered if we had torn all the Couchiching Covered Slips out and gone with open slips. I didn't recognize any of the boats and I was just baffled.
I have lots of time on my hands so I worked away at this mystery and I think I've solved it.
First of all, it's an old photo and the boats, that are in those slips, are no longer there. I think it likely goes back to our Hot Knots roots and it predates the arrival of the Police boat.
Secondly it is not a photo produced with digital technology....a negative was used to develop this photo and ......
Finally, it becomes obvious, given the first two provisos, that the photo has been printed backwards. This doesn't truly manifest itself until one holds the photo up to a bright light with the print of page 5 facing the viewer and Andy's photo for reference on the right....
...and then, voila, the photo was taken from the Walkover Bridge adjacent to where the Orchid parked and has indeed been printed backwards.
Mystery solved, I can get on with my life and more importantly I can tend to the next great mystery without distraction.
Looking forward to the spring,
Cheers,
Alan
